Injuries, COVID to blame for USC bowl game opt out, Helton says

USCFootball: USC could be preparing for a trip to San Antonio to take on Texas in the Alamo Bowl. Instead, the Trojans’ 2020 season is over after the school declined to accept a bowl bid, choosing to opt out of any further contests this season.

Head coach Clay Helton tried to explain the decision on the USC-produced Trojans Live radio show Monday night, saying USC was encroaching on the 53-man scholarship numbers. The Trojans entered the Pac-12 championship Friday night against Oregon with 60 scholarship players available, according to Helton.
