In last week’s 64-61 win for UCLA over Washington, Johnny Juzang scored a career-high 32 points for the Bruins.  In doing so, he also accomplished a feat not recorded by a Bruin since Reggie Miller in the 1986-87 season, accounting for 50% of UCLA’s point total.

Juzang

For the road trip, Juzang averaged 28.5 points, 7 rebounds and 2.5 assists to earn conference Player of the Week honors. It was a bright spot from a week in which UCLA lost at Washington State for the fifth time in their last seven trips, and hung on for the three-point win in Seattle.

USC is currently fourth in the nation in field goal (FG) defense with their opponents shooting just 38.0% from the floor. A big part of that is the Trojans’ shot blocking. They are blocking 5.7 shots per game, fifth-most in the nation, and are blocking 9.3% of their opponent’s shot attempts, ninth nationally.

usc logoWhen the Trojans are not blocking shots, they are still altering them, as opponents are shooting just 49.8% on non-blocked two-point FGs, 34th-best in the country to lead the Pac-12.

The next best in the Pac-12 in that stat are Washington State (50.3%), Stanford (50.7%), and Colorado (50.9%).

On the other end of the floor, Stanford leads the Pac-12 in non-blocked two-point shooting percentage with a 59.5% mark for the year, 39th-best in America. Utah is at 58.4% (53rd) and Oregon is shooting 57.4% (77th) on clean twos.

Oregon State is shooting just 48.1% on non-blocked two-point FGs this season, the lowest mark in the Pac-12, 331st in the nation, and the worst of any Power conference team.

In their win over Washington State on Monday night, Washington shot 51.4% on non-blocked two-point FGs. In Saturday’s loss to UCLA, the Huskies were just 32.4% on the same shots.

Washington was also able to get 11 more extra scoring chances than the Cougars. On the season, UW is –4.3 in that category.

Here’s a statistical look at this week’s games

Desert schools visit Southern California

USC has won two straight over Arizona and four of the last five meetings with the Wildcats, and SC has won those four by an average of 12.3 points per game. Arizona has averaged just 65.6 points per game in their last five vs. the Trojans.

USC is 3-1 the last four times the teams have met in the Galen Center.

Evan Mobley registered one of his Pac-12-leading nine double-doubles in the first meeting going for 19 and 11.

UCLA owns a 61-45 all-time series lead over Arizona. The Bruins are the only Pac-12 program with a winning record all-time vs. the Wildcats. Recently UCLA has won five of the last six over Arizona including four in a row.

The Bruins have gone 3-1 vs Arizona in Pauley Pavilion since 2016. In the matchup in Tucson, Tyger Campbell scored 22 to lead the Bruins, shooting 7-10 from the floor and a perfect 8-8 at the line.

Since the 2015-16 season, Southern Cal and Arizona State have split their eight meetings 4-4. The home team is 9-1 in the last 10 between the teams with the lone exception being the Trojans 73-64 win in Tempe in January. The Trojans outscored the Sun Devils 26-15 from the FT line in that one and had 11 second-chance points to ASU’s five.

The last ten meetings between UCLA and Arizona State have been a series of streaks. The Bruins took four in a row beginning January of 2016. Arizona State then went on a four-game win streak in the series, and now the last two have been won by UCLA.

The Bruins earned an overtime win in Tempe in January, and seven UCLA players contributed at least eight pints in that one.  The winning team has average 84.3 points in the last ten meetings while the loser has been at 73.1.

Bay Area teams head to Washington

Washington State earned a 71-60 win in Berkeley in January, snapping a three-game win streak in the series for the Golden Bears. Cal has won their last two trips to Pullman, and three of their last four at Beasley Coliseum. The Bears have won 15 of the last 22 between the teams.

In the first meeting this season, Isaac Bonton had 22 points to lead the Cougars. WSU ended the game +21 when Bonton was on the floor.

Stanford has won three in a row over Washington, including a 91-75 win in Santa Cruz in January. The Cardinal got a pair of double-doubles in that win from Ziaire Williams and Oscar de Silva, and came a rebound shy of a third from Jaiden Delaire. Stanford had a 47-31 edge on the glass.

The Huskies shot just 35.7% from the floor in the loss and opened the game 8-for-28. Since February 2014, the teams have split their six meetings in Seattle. The Cardinal have won six of the last eight played between the squads.

The Golden Bears got an 84-76 win over Washington at home in January. The Bears were led by Andre Kelly’s 22 in a game they won without Matt Bradley. It was just the third win in the last seven meetings for Cal.

The last time Cal visited Washington, the Bears left Seattle with their worst loss in series history. The 35-point win in February was the largest margin ever for the Huskies over California.  Cal is looking to sweep the season series over Washington for the first time since 2014-15, and for just the third time since 2004-05.

Stanford is 12-1 in their last 13 meetings with Washington State. The Cardinal got a 15-point win in Santa Cruz in January for their ninth in a row over the Cougars. During the nine-game win streak, Stanford has an average winning margin of 19.8 points over WSU.

Stanford has left Pullman with a win in six of their last eight trips there.

Oregon Schools welcome the Mountain teams

Colorado has won three of the last four over Oregon, including a 79-72 win in Boulder earlier this season while maintaining their perfect home court record all-time vs Oregon. McKinley Wright IV led the Buffs with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the win.

The Buffaloes were excellent in transition in the first meeting with 26 fast break points to the Ducks 12. While the Ducks have never won a game in Boulder, they have won five in a row over the Buffs in Matthew Knight Arena, and are 8-2 all-time in Eugene vs. Colorado.

Oregon State has won three of the last four over Utah in Corvallis and the last two games played between the teams. Last season, the teams met three times with the home team taking each game, and the Beavers claiming a two-point win in the Pac-12 tournament.

They had alternated wins in the last 10 meetings prior to OSU’s second straight win last season.

Colorado was a 78-49 winner over Oregon State on February 8th. The 29-point win was the largest for either team in the series history. The Beavers are 6-3 all-time vs. the Buffaloes in Corvallis, but the teams have split the last three played at Gill Coliseum.

Oregon won by six over Utah in January at the Huntsman Center. The Ducks are 7-1 all-time vs. the Utes in Eugene, and have gone 15-1 vs Utah since 2008-09. Oregon is 13-2 against Utah as conference opponents.
